Commission: Loki and Skylar by Sobii Commission: Loki and Skylar by Sobii
Subtitled: In Good Faith

Loki's design belongs to TheWyvernAndTheFox, and Skylar's design belongs to kimikohime.  The painting is by yours truly!

These are characters based off the RPG, The Endless Forest.

This was a LOOOOOOT of work, and I feel awful that it took me such a long time to finish.  So let's get down to it.

About Loki:  Loki's inspirations consist of Greater Kudu, Saluki, Irish Elk, and a touch of Alligator.  Loki is probably my favorite design that I ever had the privilege to work with.  When I first saw his reference/profile information, I said, "This guy is a piece of work."  It's my weird saying of, "DAAAAAAMN THIS IS AWESOME AS HELL."  I became very obsessive with Loki's design, trying to make sure that I could at least scratch the surface of this interesting hybridization.

About Skylar:  Skylar's design, overall, was "artistic license" paradise for me.  She is a combination of Kirin, and I suppose, deer, horse, AND MAYBE A LITTLE BIT UNICORN?  WHO KNOWS?  But it was very interesting to reinterpret her, so to speak.  I have not painted scales in a very long time.  It was nice to revisit it again.

The scenery:  Loki and Skylar hang out a lot at the Ename Ruins, which is inspired by The Church of St. Augustine (I think???).  In the game, it literally is ruins--just columns that are, more or less, the skeleton of where a grand church, or place of worship, used to be.  I took more liberty with this, so as to construct a shrine of sorts, as if this place was the only place in the Ename Ruins that hadn't fallen to time, or war, or any other sort of ...well, ruin.  It's secret, it's safe, as if it were preserved by God, or The Gods, themselves.

The Ename Ruins has a combination of Pagan Idols, as well as Christan symbols for gravestones.  I took this, mixed them together, to make a sort of "Deity of All" idol statue with a corresponding mash-up of pagan symbols for its Picto between its antlers:  The Goddess Symbol, and the Horned God Symbol.  Yet, there remains the wings that are so very often associated with the Christian faith and angels (it actually has two pairs of wings, though).  This Hidden Place was constructed as if it were a cross, as often seen in much older basilicas and Roman Cathedrals.

The theme:  God Isn't Dead; The Ways of Old are Not Obsolete.

Regardless of your faith practices, whether you believe it or not, WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE...  I hope you like the painting!  It was another HUGE challenge for me, but ...  I'm pleased with it, I think!

Thank you for looking!

I am so unbelievably impressed and in love with this.

Your attention to detail is just incredible and I love all of the research that you do on your subjects. Skylar's scales, oh man, and Lokiii; you took his design and ran with it. He really is a stubborn thing, but I'm glad that you enjoyed working with him in the end.

Going to second Kimi, please don't ever stop doing what you do. You are honestly one of my favorite artists and I always look forward to seeing what you share with us. ♥

I'm so glad to hear from you.    And I'm very pleased that you like it.

And I really, really appreciate your words of encouragement.  Likewise, keep up the good work.  I love your concepts and designs.  You have such a mastery of animal anatomy that it boggles my mind.

Again, Thank YOU, and thank you for being so patient while I worked this one out.

I haven't heard of this game before but this is a beautiful peice of artwork ^w^ the textures on both the characters are beautiful, the way the scenery and light has been painted gives it a delicate and sacred fantasy feel :iconfurryhuggleplz:

Thank you!  I'm glad you like the artwork!  I haven't played the game, either; I have to rely on the information of those that DO to give me the proper information I need to do something like this.  ^^;

This is definitely one of those few paintings I've done where it actually came out VERY CLOSE to how I envisioned in my head--in the atmosphere.  The scenery, and the light, was something that was integral to this piece.  So I am relieved that the impression that I was hoping to give was the one that you received!

Thanks again for the comment, and for the support.

Aaahhh, Kimis.

I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on this.  I was seriously starting to have doubts, but now, whenever I do, I'll just remember:

"You're an amazing artist.  Never stop drawing.  I love seeing what you do."

I'm glad that you like it.  The text doesn't do it justice, but I hope that you can gather the intensity behind the words. I'm very thankful that you appreciate what I've done.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of your art in the future, as well.  SO SHOW THE DRAWINGS OKAY? OKAY.
Elliot: Okay.
